You read everywhere that a magic wand is the ultimate in vibrations. This normally focuses on the female orgasm. That's a shame, because a magic wand is very nice as a couple, and for a man alone, as well. Now there are a lot of magic wand-like products out there, and the strange thing is that they often also look very similar. That can make it all a little confusing.
A little bit of background
In 1968, Hitachi introduced its Magic Wand. It was sold at pharmacies and department stores as a device for massaging stiff muscles. It had a head the size of a tennis ball and when you plugged it in, it vibrated at 5000 or 6000 rpm.
And then suddenly there was one Betty Dodson. She was an activist during the era of the sexual revolution, when sex toys weren't just available everywhere. Dodson wrote a book in 1974 in which she, among other things, recommended the Hitachi as an unconventional way of reaching orgasm as a woman. From that moment on, the Hitachi became such a success that the company had the name Hitachi removed from the packaging and in Puritan America it was just sold as the Original Magic Wand. In Europe, there's the Europe Magic Wand (although it is still not clear to me whether or not it's a "Hitachi").
Great successes are always regularly copied, and the Hitachi is no different. In the beginning, it was with mixed results, but now there are several such magic wands for sale that are better than the original.
The My Magic Wand
The My Magic Wand one such a copy. If you were to place the My Magic Wand next to the Europe Magic Wand, it would be somewhat reminiscent of a "spot the 10 differences" picture. They can hardly be distinguished from each other.
But there are indeed a few differences. For example, the My Magic Wand has a 3.5 meter cable, which is more than a meter longer than the Europe's. Is that important? Of course it is! That gives you more freedom to move. The My Magic Wand also has three buttons (plus, minus and on/off) while the Europe has two (only plus and minus). So with the My Magic Wand you don't have to go back with minus until it turns off; you can turn it off immediately when you're done. Personally, I think this is a great benefit.
Another difference is that the Europe has six vibration speeds and the My Magic Wand has three vibration speeds plus three vibration patterns. The My Magic Wand is unique in this respect (even the Doxy, another Hitachi-like corded wand, has no patterns).
In short, even though the My Magic Wand is a "look-a-like", it is not a complete copy, but a full-fledged "competitor".
Unboxing
The My Magic Wand comes in a sturdy rectangular cardboard box with an almost clinical look. This makes it fit within the historical context of the Hitachi, which was not initially designed as a sex toy.
The My Magic Wand is in a transparent plastic packaging in the box. In addition to the device itself, there's also a manual (2 pages per language with mostly just a few warnings, such as that you should not use it near water, which is quite important, since it has a cord and runs on 220V)
The My Magic Wand does not disappoint. It is nice and heavy: 772 gr. and therefore an ounce heavier than the Europe. The head is made of soft material and is a small 6 cm in diameter. By the way, you can also remove the soft head (although this is not stated anywhere in the manual). This can be useful if you want to use attachments that do not fit over the soft head. As soon as you take off the soft head, you will notice that the head consists of a metal head, a soft rubber ring and the white head. Tip: if you want to put the white cover back on, turn it inside-out and flip it back over the head.
At the time, Betty Dodson called the Hitachi the Cadillac of vibrators for women. And that it is, but also is not. It is actually a whole lot more than that. And that is also definitely applicable to the My Magic Wand. Because men can also enjoy the intense vibrations that the device produces. For all its simplicity, it is actually an enormously versatile device. You can use it for straightforward stimulation of the clitoris or penis, but it is also ideal for kinky games, such as edging or combined with bondage for forced orgasms. Because of the extremely deep vibrations you can even use it to orgasm through your clothes.
The test drive
Only three settings? I know what you're thinking. That's three less than the Europe and yet one more than the original Hitachi. The Doxy is even stepless (although there are actually also six settings behind that).
The first and lowest setting is already a very intense, deep vibration. We call this setting "oomph". This setting is already great for my partner (woman). It provides very deep, intense vibrations, which makes it almost impossible not to cum. Settings 2 ("WOW" setting) and 3 ("HOHOHO" setting) are usually too intense for her. These settings only came in handy when we wanted to experience the vibrations through the clothes or when we wanted to squeeze out one last orgasm after a whole night. For me (man), settings 2 and 3 are fine.
The three vibration patterns are programs containing all three speeds. So if speed 2 or 3 is too much for you, then the patterns won't help you. If you can (or want to) tolerate very strong vibrations, then they are really a big plus compared to the competing Europe and Doxy.
Conclusion
The My Magic Wand is a formidable competitor to other corded magic wands. The vibrations are certainly not inferior and the patterns are unique. If you like deep, intense vibrations or kinky BDSM games, this device is a real recommendation.
The advantages of the My Magic Wand:
Very deep, intense vibrations
In addition to the 3 vibration speeds (oomph, WOW and HOHOHO) there are also three vibration patterns (unique!)
Solid
An on/off button (convenient)
Various attachments available (including a head with studs, or a G-spot attachment)
No batteries: plug in and go! This device does not get tired and does not need to be recharged. It'll last longer than you (you wanna bet?)
Extra long cord, so much more freedom to move than with the competitor
Available in different colors
Very good price
Yes, you can even use it for muscle pain (really!)
The cons:
From setting 1 (‘oomph’) to setting 2 (‘WOW’), it's a big jump. There could have been a step (or two) in between.
If you don't like intense, deep, raw, fierce vibrations, you have come to the wrong place with the My Magic Wand, because that's all it does!
No batteries. Every pro has its con. You are attached to a cord. Unfortunately, most cordless magic wands have much less deep vibrations or endurance. “Options, options Dorothy!”
The buttons can't be operated by touch alone. Before you know it, you're accidentally hitting the plus and going from WOW to HOHOHO instead of oomph.
It is not waterproof. In fact, keep this device away from water if you don't want to meet an early death.
