What is a flogger?
A flogger is a multi-strip whip attached to the end of the handle . A flogger is also called a strip whip for this reason. Whips from this category are mainly used during a BDSM role play. The flogger is then used to punish or caress the submissive. In most cases, these whips are used to tap the buttocks, thighs and back.
A strip whip is available in different materials, with silicone, suede and leather being the most commonly used. The number of strips can also differ per version . Most strip whips have a loop on the end of the handle to allow the user to wear the flogger on the wrist. In addition, the loop can be used to hang the whip. The handle often has a decorative button on both sides.
Who is a flogger for?
A flogger is a widely used attribute in the BDSM world. Within BDSM you will find different power relationships and fantasies that are often expressed through role play . This role play takes place between a dominant person and a submissive (sub). The Dominant likes to be in control, while the sub likes to relinquish control.
To maintain this dynamic, a SM-zweep is often used by mutual consent. This allows the Dominant to appropriately punish or reward the sub by gently stroking the flogger. A flogger takes less force for the Dominant than if he or she had to use the hand all the time. Pain administration and pain is common in most BDSM relationships and is referred to as sadomasochism . In this case, pain is a form of stimulation in which the body is exposed to various stimuli. The body becomes increasingly sensitive to further touch due to the lashes. If the beaten spots are touched, this contact can be very stimulating for the sub. Over time, blue / purple-red patches and welts may develop. The sub is often proud of his / her print. The Dominant sees his position of power again in the prints and in most cases also enjoys it.
Endorphins
When the body is pushed to the limit, both physically and mentally, it produces endorphins and adrenaline . These substances ensure that the pain is suppressed and give a blissful feeling . The sub can become under the influence of the role play and therefore end up in a subspace. In many cases, this intoxication is comparable to the feeling you get when you have had a little too much to drink. The submissive may feel as if he / she is starting to float. Many subs describe the subspace as a spiritual and pleasant experience.
The fact that floggers are popular toys within the BDSM scene has to do with the enormous diversity between the mutual whips. Different materials are used and the quantity and shape of the strips are very different from each other. These factors influence the feeling the whip gives to the body. In general, a strip whip has a fairly short handle, which means that these whips do not hit as hard as for example crops or a bullwhip. For that reason, a flogger is excellent for those who want to experiment with a role-play or whip for the first time .
What different types are there?
There are different types of floggers available. The dimensions, the number of strips and the material used can differ greatly from each other. Together, these factors determine how the lash ultimately feels on the skin. We have outlined the main differences for you below.
Material
The material has a major impact on the whip feel on the skin. The most common materials are silicone, suede and leather. In addition, other materials such as PVC, rubber and metal are also used.
Silicone / rubber - Strip whips of silicone and rubber are quite soft and therefore ideal for the beginning BDSM'ers. These floggers give more than, for example, a leather whip would. In addition, these materials leave a smaller imprint on the skin of the sub. The silicone flogger from the Easytoys Fetish Collection is suitable for hitting and caressing and available in different colors.
Leather / suede - Not every type of leather is the same, but in general we can say that leather floggers are less flexible than silicone or rubber. As a result, the blow is somewhat duller and heavier than with whips made of other material. Leather or suede whips last a long time and often have a stylish appearance. For example, check out this one leather whip with long handle, from the EasyTots Fetish Collection.
PVC - A number of floggers are made of PVC. These plastic floggers are relatively inexpensive, but do pose some safety risks. The material usually lasts less than leather or silicone and the strips can feel sharp.
Metal - There are also whips available with metal strips. These can feel very intense and are therefore only suitable for the experienced user. The whip with chains from this category has smooth links so that no sharp edges cut into the skin.
Size
Strip whips are available in different sizes. The bigger the whip, the faster and harder the strokes will hit. With longer strips or a longer handle , the strips can achieve a higher speed . Longer strips also make the whip heavier, which increases the impact. The average length of a strip whip is between 30 and 50 cm . However, a number of whips from this category have a longer length. This red / black leather whip has a length of no less than 75 cm. This whip makes it possible to hit hard and fast.
The smallest whip in this category is the leather mini whip from ZADO. This whip is only 19 cm long but can still hit quite hard. This little flogger can even be attached to the key ring, so you can always exercise control when needed.
Strips / hardness
The effect of a strip whip is also determined by the amount of strips and their length. A whip with more strips will also cover a larger area . The energy of the blow is therefore distributed over a larger area. A flogger with just a few strips will feel much brighter.
An example of a strip whip with many strips is this mini whip from Strict Leather. This whip also has a relatively short handle , which means that the strokes will feel less harsh.
Wide strips cover a larger area than narrow strips and give a dull and thumping feeling . Narrow strips to give a more fierce andstinging pain. A good example of a flogger with fewer strips is this whip with four strands. This whip is suitable for the more experienced BDSM'er.
Also thefinishing of the strips can be important. A flogger with nicely rounded strips comes in less brightly than strips with cut ends or buttons . An example of this is this one silver strip whip, which ensures a brighter contact with its cut strips.
Special models
There are also a number of specialty floggers available. In this category you will find a combination of a black leather whip and flogger. These are two whips in one and give the Dominant more options during the role play. There are also a number of lashes which handle even a dildo to use. For example, consider this one whip with penis handle. If you are interested in this, it might also be interesting to view our category whips with dildos.
Which flogger is best for me?
Which flogger is best for you depends on your experience with whips and BDSM roleplay in general. Below we distinguish between whips for beginners and floggers for more experienced users.
Beginner
If you have little or no experience with a whip, it is good to start with a soft material . A silicone or rubber flogger is the best option. A short flogger does not hit as hard as a whip with a long handle. It is therefore best for beginners to go for a small whip. If you have more experience, you can always get a bigger whip at home.
A strip whip with many strips covers a larger surface and therefore has less impact. In addition, many strips give a pleasant feeling when the flogger is used to stroke the sub. The silicone whip from Easytoys is an excellent flogger for beginners. This is a relatively small whip with many strips.
More experienced user
Experienced users can opt for whips with fewer strips or a firmer material such as leather or metal . This material bounces less and therefore arrives harder at the sub. It could also be experimented with longer whips . With a longer whip it is possible to hit harder, due to the larger whip that the flogger makes.
You can also opt for a whip with knots or incised strips . These cause more severe pain on the body. Examples of whips for more experienced users are the whip with chains and the whip with four strands. This last flogger has fewer strips and therefore ends up in a smaller area. This creates a sharp pain for the recipient.
How do you use a strip whip?
If you have little experience with hitting whips, it is wise to practice with your whip first. You can do this by, for example, exercising on a pillow . For example, put a cushion on the chair and try to hit the spot you have chosen. Take a good look at what distance you need to hit the pillow properly. Do you have problems with your back? Then you are probably too far from your sub / object. It is important to always hit with a straight back . Practice is important because a misplaced shot can sometimes have far-reaching consequences. Places where bones or vital organs lie close to the skin should be avoided at all times . Examples include the kidneys, vertebral socket, abdomen and head. The best places to hit are areas with a lot of body fat , such as the thighs, butt, and breasts. Men have little body fat on their chest, but enough muscle to protect the body.
When you have finished practicing, it is time to get started with the sub. Build up the lashes well , don't start too hard right away. The spot needs to be warmed up a bit first to make harder strokes feel pleasant later on. When the sub earns it, he / she can also be stroked with the flogger. To do this, let the strips slide slowly over the body.
How do you maintain a flogger?
Most floggers are made of suede or leather and should therefore be well maintained. These materials can dry out , causing cracks in your whip. To keep your leather whip supple and in top condition, it is wise to grease it occasionally with leather grease. Never leave a leather whip in the sun !
To clean
Because with hard blows the skin can sometimes bleed a little, it is good to clean your whip after use. Various cleaning products are available for leather, such as the Polifee Leather care. A rubber or silicone whip is easier to clean . You only need a wet cloth for this. To prevent infections, the skin should also be disinfected . Because diseases can also be spread via a whip, it is wise to use the whip for 1 person only.
